Infineon Technologies AG officially opened its new backend manufacturing site in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, with the Prime Minister of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul, and Alexander Gorski, Chief Operations Officer of Infineon Technologies. The site complements and further broadens the company’s global manufacturing presence and offers capacity for future growth. Strategically situated in the heart of Southeast Asia, the site strengthens Infineon’s capability to serve customers worldwide at a time when long-term demand for semiconductors is rising on the back of digitalization, electrification, and the energy transition.
The facility is designed for future growth and can be expanded by up to five modules, allowing Bangkok to potentially develop into one of Infineon’s biggest backend manufacturing sites over time. The site will be a strategic addition to Infineon’s globally diversified manufacturing network and supports the continuous expansion of Infineon’s frontend manufacturing capacities.
According to Alexander Gorski, Chief Operations Officer of Infineon Technologies, “What makes Bangkok such an important addition to our global manufacturing footprint is its unique combination of location and growth potential. We are establishing a new hub in the heart of Southeast Asia, surrounded by a fast-growing ecosystem and with excellent access to global logistics. This helps us further diversify our manufacturing network across regions and serve our customers with resilient capacity and great flexibility. We have built the Bangkok site with the future in mind. Starting with Module A, the site can grow to up to five modules over time, giving us unique scalability to support future growth.”
As per the Prime Minister of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul, “Infineon’s new backend manufacturing site in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, is a strong vote of confidence in Thailand’s future as a leading semiconductor location. Together, we are advancing Thailand’s semiconductor ecosystem, strengthening our role in the global value chain and creating new opportunities and highly skilled jobs for future generations. We welcome Infineon’s long-term engagement and look forward to deepening our cooperation.”
Long term investment in Thailand’s semiconductor ecosystem
Thailand’s ambition to build a strong semiconductor ecosystem, in line with its national technology strategy, is generating new momentum for advanced manufacturing and technology-driven growth in the region. Thailand has strong ties with the rest of Southeast Asia, is close to key customer markets, and has a long history of semiconductor manufacturing. The Bangkok site leverages local expertise, existing partnerships, and a highly skilled workforce, while helping to further develop Thailand’s booming semiconductor ecosystem.
The site currently employs about 350 people but will grow to about 1,000 employees as the first building (Module A) ramps up. In addition to manufacturing, Infineon also promotes talent development through university, education, and industry partner collaborations.
Broader functionality for sophisticated, high-value semiconductor solutions
The Bangkok facility combines advanced automation, scalable design, and a digital manufacturing backbone to enable efficient, stable, and high-quality production at scale. The facility was developed as a greenfield site, based on the proven expertise of Infineon’s established backend manufacturing sites, and offers flexibility to adapt to evolving customer demands, new technologies, and large production volumes.
The Bangkok site is fully equipped with high levels of automation and advanced cleanroom, assembly, and test capabilities, covering the full spectrum of semiconductor backend processes and wafer tests. This unique combination reinforces its function within Infineon’s manufacturing network and enables ever more complex, high-value semiconductor solutions for applications in the automotive, industrial, and energy infrastructure, contributing directly to technologies that promote electrification, energy efficiency, and digitalization around the world.
Built-in sustainability from ground level up
The Bangkok site is powered by 100% green electricity and features water recycling and rainwater collection systems and solar modules that generate renewable energy on-site. These measures also promote resource-saving production and form part of Infineon’s strategic priority to continuously reduce its carbon footprint along the entire value chain.
