Micron is to invest over $250 billion in the U.S. through 2035, hitting a construction landmark at what is going to be the largest semiconductor manufacturing site in U.S. history.
In a recent move, Micron Technology, Inc., on July 9, 2026, stated that it is boosting U.S. fab and technology investments as well as raising its projected spend to over $250 billion through 2035, fuelled by rising demand when it comes to memory in the AI era.
With Micron boosting U.S. fab and technology investments, it expects higher investment is going to help it to accomplish its ultimate target of manufacturing 40% of its DRAM in the U.S. and generating more lucrative direct and indirect jobs. The increase in funding indicates the belief of Micron in its technology leadership as well as ongoing demand as far as its advanced memory products are concerned.
Apparently, the announcement comes after the first concrete pour milestone by Micron at its Clay, NY site, which is more than one quarter in advance of the initial schedule and represents a change from site planning to vertical construction. Micron also aims to spend as much as $3 billion to expand the domestic semiconductor supply chain infrastructure as a result of its U.S. manufacturing presence, as previously disclosed on July 9, 2026.
On July 9, 2026, Sanjay Mehrotra hosted the concrete pour, joined by supplier partners as well as federal, state along with local leaders, such as Howard Lutnick, U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Kelly Loeffler, Small Business Administration Administrator, Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon, U.S. Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, U.S. Congressman John Mannion, as well as Town of Clay Deputy Supervisor Joe Bick.
According to Micron Chairman, President, and CEO, Sanjay Mehrotra,”As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, data and memory are foundational to the modern economy and Micron is increasing our U.S. investments to more than $250 billion through 2035 to meet that moment. I want to thank President Trump, Secretary Lutnick, Governor Hochul, Senator Schumer, County Executive McMahon, and our partners across government and the community for their leadership. Reaching this milestone ahead of schedule reflects the speed and determination behind this project. Micron is proud to bring the world’s most advanced memory manufacturing to Central New York, strengthen the domestic semiconductor supply chain and help secure America’s technology leadership for generations to come.”
As per the commerce secretary Howard Lutnick, “President Trump has made it clear that America is where you should build your business, and the world is responding rapidly. Today, Micron pours the foundation on its massive semiconductor campus in upstate New York and increases its American investment commitment to $250 billion, creating nearly 100,000 jobs and providing a leading-edge memory supply here in the United States. The Trump economic model clearly shows there has never been a better time to invest in the United States.”
Remarked Governor Kathy Hochul, “Today’s milestone marks another major step for Micron in Central New York, and what makes it even more remarkable is that we’re here in July — months ahead of schedule — pouring the concrete foundation. This is the largest private investment in New York State history, and it’s already delivering for New Yorkers, our state economy, and our local businesses. With up to 50,000 jobs on the horizon, we are building the future of American memory manufacturing right here in Central New York, and we are building it fast.”
Fast progress in Central New York
Micron has completed significant early site work and is moving to vertical construction in under six months following breaking ground in January 2026. Micron has just chosen Bechtel in order to collaborate on engineering and procurement as well as construction for the first New York fab. The architectural and engineering design partner, Jacobs, and Gilbane Building Company, the preconstruction and site infrastructure contractor, are also going to celebrate the occasion.
It is well to be noted that to date, Micron has granted around $675 million, over half of the overall awarded value, to New York-based contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers, comprising firms from Rome, Rochester, Watertown, Syracuse, Liverpool, Buffalo and Binghamton, to work with Gilbane on the initial site works stage. To date, over 80% of the employees on site are New York residents, indicating the effect of the project on upstate New York communities and businesses.
At peak construction thousands of skilled craft workers will be required to construct the facility, offering opportunities for union trades, local training programme graduates, and apprentices.
Building America’s memory across the United States
The New York project is the foundation of the investment plan in the US by Micron. Micron is also moving fast in Idaho, with initial wafer output scheduled for mid-calendar 2027 when it comes to the first fab and late calendar 2028 for the second. Earlier in 2026, in Virginia, Micron began the first production of its 1α (1-alpha) DDR4 technology, addressing long lifecycle product needs of the customers across the industrial, automotive, medical, and aerospace as well as defense markets.
In total, these projects have the potential to produce over 90,000 jobs and help achieve U.S. economic and national security objectives. Micron will keep trying to be rigorous in its approach and adaptable to the marketplace as it undertakes such investments to correctly align its supply plans.
Said Manish Bhatia, Micron’s executive vice president of global operations, “This milestone in Central New York shows Micron’s U.S. manufacturing strategy moving from planning to meaningful local impact. As we build the capacity, workforce and supplier base needed for the AI era, we are creating opportunities for New York businesses, skilled trades and communities to grow with us. What we are building here will contribute to a thriving semiconductor hub in Central New York, complementing Micron’s existing sites in Idaho and Virginia.”
Making Investments in the Central New York Community
To mark America’s 250th anniversary, Micron announced a $250 million investment in Trump accounts aimed at reaching one million children and families. The company will offer a one-time $250 seed deposit for eligible children in the communities where it currently operates, such as Central New York, in addition to an employee match benefit. So far, Micron has also invested in excess of $50 million throughout Central New York on community goals, such as workforce development and STEM education as well as other training requirements, veterans’ programs, housing, and transportation, along with childcare.
Says Kelly Loeffler, Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, “Micron’s massive investment in Central New York – part of a $250 billion investment nationwide – is precisely the kind of bold, American-made commitment that President Trump’s agenda was designed to unleash. When a company of Micron’s scale puts down roots, it has a powerful effect across our economy – not only by creating 50,000 new jobs and thousands of new work orders for local job creators but also by strengthening small businesses across America that depend on leading-edge semiconductor technology to fuel every vital industry, from defense to energy.
