Sherwin-Williams has formally launched an expanded manufacturing facility in North Carolina at Statesville. This feat makes it the largest plant in North America of Sherwin-Williams.
The company celebrated the milestone with a formal ribbon cutting, marking the culmination of years of planning, construction, and collaboration. The expansion includes nearly 50,000 square feet of the architectural paint and coatings facility, as well as expanded production space, automation alterations, and four new rail spurs along with supporting infrastructure intended to expedite material handling while boosting efficiency.
The investment will significantly enhance production capacity and strengthen the logistics network of the company as it pursues rising customer demand. The Statesville plant is also partnering with a nearby Sherwin-Williams distribution service center to create a hub that links manufacturing, transportation, and distribution to the global operations of the company.
According to Heidi Petz, Chair, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Sherwin-Williams, “This grand opening is a significant milestone for Sherwin-Williams and our Statesville team. The new facility offers us greater flexibility and efficiency in how we manufacture and transport products throughout our global supply network, with more production space, new rail infrastructure, and more automation. It also supports our enterprise priority of improving supply chain responsiveness and helps us be an even more dependable and reliable supplier for our customers as we drive long-term growth.”
The expansion was supported by a public-private partnership including Sherwin-Williams, the state of North Carolina, and Iredell County, as well as the City of Statesville, which agreed on incentives so as to support the development.
Said North Carolina Lt. Governor Rachel Hunt, “Sherwin-Williams has been an important part of the Statesville community for more than three decades, and we are proud to celebrate their continued investment in North Carolina. This expansion strengthens Statesville’s role in advanced manufacturing, supports good jobs, and reflects the confidence companies have in our people, infrastructure, and business climate.
It is well to be noted that Sherwin-Williams has had a Statesville presence since 1993. The company selected the site for expansion due to its transportation access, qualified employees, and proximity to its larger manufacturing and distribution network.
Statesville Mayor Doug Hendrix remarked that “Projects like this show why Statesville continues to be a strong location for advanced manufacturing. We are proud to support an expansion that brings together local talent, transportation access, and public-private partnership to create lasting value for our community.”
