Intel to Invest €5bn to Advance Manufacturing in Europe

In order to advance manufacturing in Europe, Intel announced on July 13, 2026, that it would invest €5 billion, or $5.7 billion, of capital at its Leixlip campus located in Ireland, which is going to be the next step in expanding the facility’s capacity.

The global demand when it comes to AI as well as high-performance computing has led to a necessity for advanced silicon to drive AI factories, and Intel in order to advance manufacturing in Europe, is increasing its capacity in Ireland to supply Intel Xeon 6 along with next-gen Intel Xeon developed on its Intel 3 node. This investment strategy will increase current manufacturing output, accelerate research and development operations, and utilize capacity available within current cleanroom space, bolstering the semiconductor supply chain in Europe and meeting industry demand.

The expansion will see enhancements made to current fabrication spaces and the setting up of leading-edge manufacturing machinery. Major infrastructure upgrades consist of the extension of the automated track system, which will combine the separate campus components into a single high-speed production setting.

The €5 billion capital expenditure programme began implementation earlier in 2026. The project is anticipated to include full-time high-tech jobs at Intel and highly specialized building and machinery install tradespeople.

According to the executive vice president, chief technology and operations officer, and general manager of Intel Foundry, Naga Chandrasekaran, “This €5 billion investment represents a definitive commitment to maximize capacity at our Leixlip campus and increase what we can deliver to Intel Foundry customers. By investing in our existing fabs with state-of-the-art technology and installing cutting-edge tools, we are not just increasing output of critical products like Xeon 6 and next-gen Intel Xeon processors built on Intel 3, we are ensuring that Ireland remains at the forefront of the world’s most advanced manufacturing ecosystem while strengthening the region’s role in the global technology landscape.”

This pledge represents an essential foundation for the growth and strengthening of the semiconductor ecosystem in Ireland, putting the country at the top of European manufacturing hubs. It also provides a crucial puzzle piece for the tech-sovereignty ambitions of the European Union, enabling a robust, local supply of cutting-edge processors.

Since beginning operations in 1989, Intel has invested more than €30 billion in Ireland. It is well to be noted that the Leixlip campus is one of the company’s most sophisticated manufacturing plants. The site currently employs 4,900 people and has been paving the way in semiconductor advancement, helping to put Ireland on the world technology map.

Welcoming the announcement, An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin T.D., said that “Intel’s latest multi-billion-euro investment in Leixlip is a powerful vote of confidence in Ireland, our skills base, and our position at the heart of Europe’s most advanced manufacturing ecosystem. At a time of rapid technological change and global competition, this expansion strengthens Ireland’s role in securing resilient semiconductor supply chains and reinforces our ambition to remain a global leader in innovation, productivity, and sustainable economic growth.”

Michael Lohan, the IDA Ireland CEO, said that “Intel is one of Ireland’s longest-standing and most strategically important investors. This project demonstrates the value of Ireland’s skilled workforce, innovation ecosystem, and stable business environment, while reinforcing Ireland’s leadership in advanced semiconductor manufacturing, supporting both European competitiveness and resilient global supply chains.”
