A global leader in electrification, Hitachi Energy, on June 24, 2026, reached a major landmark with the groundbreaking of a new plant at its power semiconductor creation in Switzerland. This indicates the intent by the company to go ahead and accelerate operations and broaden its capacity for manufacturing in order to satisfy the increasing global demand when it comes to semiconductors as well as power electronics from the utility, industry, and data center as well as transportation sectors.
The power semiconductor creation in Switzerland is an element of the $9 billion USD global investment program from Hitachi Energy so as to increase capacity along with adding 15,000 people to scale manufacturing and R&D as well as digitalization, which includes boosting productivity by means of AI-enabled processes. This will allow the award-winning and highly automated Lenzburg semiconductor location to continue to assist in scaling production, enhancing operational efficiency and serving customers globally in a reliable manner.
It is well to be noted that at Hitachi Energy, power semiconductors are at the core of their work so as to build the grid and guide the development of energy systems towards a completely electrified world. It allows efficient conversion and management of electricity in typical uses, including HVDC transmission, integration of wind and solar, grid stability solutions, and storage systems for energy and is the foundation of a solid and advanced grid.
According to the managing director of semiconductors at Hitachi Energy, Rainer Kaesmaier, “This groundbreaking represents a significant step in strengthening our semiconductor footprint and expanding our production capacity in a targeted and sustainable way. This investment reflects our long-term commitment to Switzerland as a key hub for power semiconductor manufacturing while also creating a modern and attractive working environment for our people and partners.”
The new six-story building has been designed by ATP Architekten Ingenieure Zürich AG and will integrate office functions in a contemporary, purpose-designed work environment. The existing production areas will be optimized, and essential space for expanded manufacturing operations will be released.
The finished building will include nearly 200 new workstations, meeting as well as focus rooms, a special customer support space, collaboration spaces, and enhanced IT services. The logistics area will involve automated storage infrastructure along with specialized rooms in order to increase productivity and accommodate the growing manufacturing needs of the site.
Notably, the construction of the new building will take place in 2026-2027 for the offices, and logistics construction is expected to continue until 2028. Hitachi Energy will be working in close collaboration with ATP Architekten Ingenieure Zürich AG and local authorities, as well as partners, throughout the duration of the project so as to make sure of a safe and efficient execution with minimal interruption to ongoing production.
