Octapharma, the world’s largest privately owned and independent plasma fractionator, on July 29, 2026 announced plans to build its first manufacturing and production plant in U.S. The facility will be located at the Palmetto Research Park in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
It is well to be noted that the $1.5 billion project anticipates creating 1,500 full-time jobs in South Carolina and will be one of the largest private investments when it comes to biomedical in the long history of the state.
Once opened, this first manufacturing and production plant in U.S. will manufacture vital, life-saving drugs from Octapharma’s range of plasma-derived therapies, bolstering the domestic biomedical supply chain and adding to the global manufacturing footprint of the company. The production of bleeding management along with trauma care products for national security and emergency preparedness necessities will also take place at the Rock Hill site of Octapharma.
Apparently, today’s announcement is the result of an extensive planning and zoning procedure, worked out with officials from Rock Hill and York County, and in a collaborative manner with local, state as well as federal leaders.
According to the CEO and Chairman, Octapharma, Wolfgang Marguerre, “We expect significant future growth, driven by our existing life-saving therapies and a strong pipeline of new products. Our manufacturing capacity must evolve to support this ambition, and our US manufacturing facility will be an important milestone. From a US national security perspective, having the ability to produce and supply our therapies domestically is invaluable.”
The Deputy Chairman, Octapharma, Tobias Marguerre says that “We have built a significant presence in the US over the last 20 years through our commercial capabilities, alongside our extensive network of plasma donation centres. As the demand in the US for our portfolio of products continues to grow, the new US manufacturing site will bring production of our FDA-approved therapies closer to both the plasma donated in the US, and to the patients who rely on them.”
A Pledge to Rock Hill by Octapharma
The leadership of South Carolina and Octapharma are committed to biomedical innovation, domestic supply chain resilience along with long-term financial investment in the local community.
Notably, Rock Hill was chosen as the prime location for the first US facility of Octapharma due to the existing infrastructure in advanced manufacturing, accessibility to deep water ports as well as close proximity to key logistics networks. The state also has a solid supply of biomedical and life sciences talent coming out of world-class technical institutions so as to offer the workforce to encourage clean, efficient biopharmaceutical manufacturing at a global level.
As per President of Octapharma USA, Flemming Nielsen, “Octapharma appreciates the good-faith work of every elected official and staff member in York County and Rock Hill who helped bring this to fruition. We also want to thank Governor McMaster and South Carolina’s federal and state delegation for their support in welcoming Octapharma to the Palmetto State. South Carolina’s talented workforce, strong life sciences ecosystem, and pro-business environment made it clear this was the right home for our first US manufacturing facility.”
