Dürr has gone ahead in expanding portfolio of dispensing technology with the EcoMeter XS, a compact microdispensing unit that automatically dispenses very small amounts of adhesives, sealants, and various other high-viscosity materials. The system is primarily aimed at producers of batteries and electronic components and also electric motors.
The EcoMeter XS is suitable for applications such as vehicle battery assembly, power electronics manufacturing, grease and seal dispensing, magnet bonding in electric motors, and small-volume potting processes.
For these applications, Dürr has employed its EcoShot Meter dispensing technology series until now. But when manufacturers need to apply very small amounts, these systems are pushed to the limits of performance. One example is the spot application for round battery cells where the material acts as a thermal bridge between the cell and the cooling unit.
According to Sebastian Jochum, product manager for dispensing technology at Dürr, “One tenth of a cubic centimeter, applied to the front surface of the cell, is enough to establish thermal contact. With the EcoMeter XS, Dürr now offers the perfect solution for these specific requirements in the manufacture of battery systems.”
Continuous Material Flow Means no Refill Times
With expanding portfolio of dispensing technology EcoMeter XS doses and applies the material continuously, without the interruption of refilling typical for conventional piston dosing systems. The EcoMeter XS builds upon the proven large-volume continuous-dosing technology developed by Dürr for applications in the vehicle window bonding and other industries and brings it to the microdispensing arena. The system is capable of handling flow rates from 0.00005 cm 3 /s to 1 cm 3 /s. It also allows users to precisely control the dosing rate when feeding material from cartridges or hobbocks. With the EcoMeter XS we are extending our dosing technology down into the micro range. This enables us to provide the right dispensing solution for virtually any application volume, says Jochum.
Lightweight Allows Mounting on Axis Gantries
Depending on the configuration, the compact EcoMeter XS weights between 0.8 kg and 1.6 kg. Its low weight allows the user to mount the unit on common robotic systems, axis gantries, and robots with low payloads. Thus, the EcoMeter XS is ideally suited for small production cells in battery and electronics manufacturing, electric servo-motor production, and many sealing applications. All functions are combined in a central dosing and process control system to simplify operation.
Modular Design Provides Flexibility
Dürr has developed the EcoMeter XS in a modular concept for all micro-quantity applications. The design is flexible, allowing a number of configurations and variants to allow quick adaptation of the system as process requirements change. The modular approach allows the application quantities, material viscosities, and component geometries to be varied.
