$200m Manufacturing Capacities Boost for Oxea by Air Liquide

The Air Liquide Group accomplished an important turning point in its long-term relationship with Oxea. It is offering a $200m manufacturing capacities boost for Oxea at the Bay City, Texas site in the United States.

This planned investment of $200mn, including the construction of a new high efficiency Partial Oxidation – POX unit, demonstrates the technological leadership of Air Liquide and its ambition to capture growth in an important industrial basin.

It is worth noting that the Group will develop a new innovative high-efficiency Partial Oxidation – POX unit, which is anticipated to be commissioned at the beginning of 2029. The unit will be a dependable, massive syngas and low-carbon hydrogen source for the expanding chemical necessities of Oxea in addition to the growth of its oxo-alcohols as well as performance chemicals businesses, by taking advantage of its long-term existence at one of the most feedstock favourable locations in the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Interestingly, the new plant is highly efficient with respect to the environmental effectiveness, all thanks to an initial design of engineering teams of Air Liquide. A new CO2 recycling loop enables CO2 to be recycled again into the Oxea reactor, to improve the mixture and yield of syngas.

With the $200m manufacturing capacities boost for Oxea, the facility will add capacity but will also partially substitute some current facilities and cut the net CO2 emissions of the Group by almost 64,000 tonnes every year.

Air Liquide continues to assist its partners to expand further in the United States through expanding its industrial presence on the U.S. Gulf Coast, its strong pipeline network, and taking advantage of possibilities in significant industrial basins with low-carbon, competitive, cutting-edge, and dependable solutions.

According to Matthieu Giard, the Group Executive Committee member and also notably in charge of supervising operations in the Americas, “This project represents a significant opportunity to align industrial growth and efficiency while demonstrating that competitive solutions can also support climate objectives. We are proud to invest alongside industrial partners who are actively expanding in the U.S. market. By deploying new technologies and CO2 recycling capabilities in Bay City, Air Liquide is delivering a solution that ensures both superior reliability and efficiency for our customer.”
