$1bn Investment in Manufacturing Plant in The US By Pirelli

On September 22, 2026, the Board of Directors of Pirelli & C. S.p.A. met and approved by majority – with the negative votes of board members Zhang Haitao and Xi Xiaohong as well as Wang Kun – an investment plan for the US of roughly $1bn investment in manufacturing plant in the US at Rome, Georgia, which already manufactures the most technologically advanced solutions when it comes to the U.S. market.

The investment plan will serve to support the growth of Pirelli in the high-value segment in the United States, the world’s biggest market for this segment, with a share of around 40% of global volumes. The project will support the company’s local-for-local strategy, improve supply chain resilience, and meet the growing demand for technologically advanced “Made in USA products. In addition, the investment reinforces Pirelli’s long-term commitment to the country, where the company has operated in the State of Georgia since 2002, building solid relationships with government institutions, local authorities, and universities.

The expansion plan will be developed over a number of years beginning in 2027 and will bring the annual production capacity of the Rome plant, including Cyber™ Tyre technology, to about 6 million car tires when completed in 2033, creating around 1,000 new jobs.

The Rome plant will be developed into a modern industrial hub in two phases. This first phase will increase robotized production step-by-step, using the latest evolution of MIRS – Modular Integrated Robotized System, which is a proprietary Pirelli technology—with production capacity growing progressively from 2028 to a maximum of 3 million tires per year. This will be accomplished through self-contained modular robotic systems that are capable of manufacturing technologically sophisticated high-value tires.

An additional production capacity at completion of 3 million tyres per year at full operation will be developed with the most advanced manufacturing processes and devoted to premium products in a fully automated conventional production facility.

The plant is expected to be able to manufacture the most advanced technology products, including Cyber™ Tyre. It is well to be noted that after a change in governance rules introduced by the 2026 Golden Power Decree from Italy, Pirelli has received the go-ahead from the Bureau of Industry and Security – BIS to launch the Cyber™ Tyre system on the U.S. market, a country that is increasingly embracing connected and autonomous vehicles.

This $1bn investment in manufacturing plant in the US will allow Pirelli to increase the production capacity gradually and in step with the evolution of demand, maintaining very high standards of efficiency and optimizing the costs of raw material transformation and investment.

The project timeline is in accordance with the industrial needs of the High Value segment, which features highly specialized manufacturing processes, management of a wide product mix in small batches, and integration of Pirelli’s proprietary technologies.

The project will not impact the company’s 2026 targets, with the capex-to-revenue ratio expected to stay largely in line with previous periods for 2027-2033, while protecting the Group’s cash generation.
