$100m Planned for Fulfillment and Robotics Network of Amazon

Amazon has gone ahead and announced its plans to invest over $100 million in a new 585,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility located in Greenwood, Indiana, that will manufacture products powering fulfillment and robotics network of Amazon in North America.

The new facility, due to open in 2028, will generate 300 skilled manufacturing and engineering jobs, the company stated.

Amazon is investing in Indiana

Amazon said the investment builds on the company’s almost 20-year investment in Indiana, where it has put in over $40 billion while creating far more than 27,000 jobs since initially launching its operations in the state way back in 2008.

According to the company, this is yet another example of the substantial investment by the company when it comes to American manufacturing and economic growth.  Amazon remarked that it has established one of the biggest industrial robotics manufacturing operations in the world at its facilities that are located in Massachusetts and has since then manufactured over 1 million robots in the U.S.

It is well to be noted that the robots are now working throughout the 300 facilities around the world, helping employees pick items for 75% of all customer orders that Amazon ships globally. The Greenwood plant comes after the August 2026 announcement from Amazon of a new robotics manufacturing investment in Texas as part of the ongoing growth of a domestic manufacturing footprint.

The company said the growth has been satisfactory for employees, too.

As per Amazon vice president of economic development Holly Sullivan, “We’re thrilled to bring 300 advanced manufacturing jobs to Greenwood, Indiana, and to continue investing in growth and opportunities across the state. This facility represents a significant investment in the Indianapolis community that will create jobs with a median salary well above the regional average. Indiana has a world-class manufacturing workforce and business-friendly environment, and we’re excited to continue creating opportunities for people across the state and helping them learn the new skills they need to take advantage of those opportunities.”

What do the new robotics and fulfillment facility of Amazon do?

The roughly 585,000-square-foot facility will bring together advanced fabrication, robotic welding, automated powder coating and assembly capabilities under one roof, powered by AWS and AI-driven smart manufacturing systems and robotics, Amazon said. The facility will be utilised for manufacturing items that go into Amazon fulfillment centers in North America and is projected to begin operations in 2028, the company said.

Amazon said the following new positions are being added to the facility –

  • Computer Numerical Control – CNC operators
  • Welders
  • Powder coating technicians
  • Assemblers
  • Manufacturing engineers
  • Quality assurance specialists
  • Controls engineers
  • Program managers

It is well to be noted that the roles offer an average annual salary of nearly $100,000, the company said.

The choice to locate this fulfillment and robotics network of Amazon in Indiana speaks volumes about the capabilities of the manufacturing workforce, world-class infrastructure, and, of course, the commitment to building an environment where companies of all sizes can grow and prosper, Mike Braun, the Indiana governor, said.

He further adds, “This $100 million investment will bring 300 high-paying, skilled jobs to the community that offers Hoosier families real careers in advanced manufacturing. Indiana has always been a state that builds things, and Amazon’s investment reinforces our position as the nation’s leader in manufacturing.”
