With an investment of over MX$1.2 billion, Bepensa Bebidas and the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry have opened Planta Centenario Valladolid in Yucatan to increase the capacity of the bottler for 100% returnable carbonated products by 30% and reinforce beverage distribution in the Yucatan Peninsula.
The plant, in Valladolid, will satisfy around 25% of the current demand for beverages in the peninsula and will create over 200 direct jobs. The project also expands manufacturing and logistics capabilities of Bepensa as beverage companies ramp up investment when it comes to production infrastructure, automation, distribution, and sustainability throughout Mexico.
It is well to be noted that the plant’s opening coincides with the 80th anniversary of Bepensa in operations and the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry’s 100th anniversary in the country. It is also part of the Coca-Cola system’s greater investment commitment of US$6 billion in Mexico, including manufacturing, distribution, and commercialization.
Valladolid Plant Increases Beverage Capacity in Yucatan
The new plant increases the capacity of Bepensa in order to serve customers across Yucatan and Quintana Roo and extends its distribution network from Valladolid. The project was developed in around 18 months and occupies over 130,000 m2 within a 380,000 m2 property.
From this location Bepensa serves in excess of 1,900 customers, making deliveries using 29 routes and managing over 950 orders daily. It will help the company meet demands from customers and consumers throughout the peninsula while facilitating the expansion of regional operations.
Says Alonso Gasque Toraya, CEO of Grupo Bepensa, they are excited about the opening of this plant, which will enhance Grupo Bepensa’s ability to cater to markets in Yucatan and Quintana Roo.
The investment to increase beverage capacity in Yucatan exemplifies the beverage system’s long-term dedication to continue investing in Mexico, opines Louis Balat, president of Coca-Cola Mexico.
The fact is that the regional expansion reflects how beverage manufacturers and bottlers are integrating production investments with distribution infrastructure to boost supply capacity nearer to end markets.
Production supported by automation and Industry 4.0
The Planta Centenario Valladolid increases capacity and adds automation and digital technologies to increase the efficiency of production and monitoring. It is a completely automated production line in an Industry 4.0 environment.
The line can churn out more than 30,000 bottles an hour, and digital monitoring systems give live tracking of the operation. Bepensa has also added digital capabilities to the manufacturing processes of the plant with the incorporation of AI tools centered around operational safety.
The use of automation is indicative of a broader trend among the food and beverage manufacturers in Mexico in favor of technology-enabled production. Companies are making investments in digital monitoring and automated equipment, as well as data-driven processes, so as to boost output while upholding operational controls, thereby enhancing supply chain performance.
Thanks to the extra production capacity and digital infrastructure at Bepensa, the Valladolid site can be used as a manufacturing and distribution platform for the peninsula.
Sustainability Attributes Go Beyond Production
The investment also involves water management along with electrification measures, as beverage companies are under increasing pressure so as to cut their resource consumption and emissions in their operations.
The Valladolid Centenario Plant has the infrastructure for treating wastewater, collecting rainwater, and using reverse-osmosis technology. The systems are intended to facilitate water management when it comes to the production process and minimize the dependence of the plant on external water sources.
The plant will also include electric vehicles in its associated fleet. About 10% of the fleet will be electric, such as forklifts, utility vehicles, and delivery trucks.
These measures treat resource efficiency and fleet electrification as equal to production expansion, in line with the increasing incorporation of sustainability goals into manufacturing and distribution investments in Mexico’s consumer-goods sector.
Coca-Cola Bottlers to Increase Investment in Mexico
Bepensa’s investment comes as Coca-Cola bottlers in Mexico are investing more widely in capital, with companies committing money to production capacity, logistics infrastructure, digitalization, and sustainability.
Arca Continental, which is another major Coca-Cola bottler, recently announced an MX$18.5 billion investment program for 2026. MBN said it expects to spend 50% of the planned capital expenditure in Mexico and the rest in operations in the US, Ecuador, Peru, and northern Argentina.
The company said its 2026 investment program will be largely directed to production and distribution infrastructure, electronic tools, new beverage categories, and environmentally friendly initiatives. Arca Continental reaches over 130 million people in its markets across the Americas.
Investment Fuels Mexico’s Beverage Supply Chain
Bepensa’s manufacturing plant in Valladolid boosts production capacity for southeastern Mexico, enhancing regional supply infrastructure so as to meet rising beverage demand. Its emphasis on returnable carbonated products additionally highlights the company’s ability in a packaging reuse-related market.
For the Coca-Cola Company in Mexico, the project is part of a wider strategy so as to expand manufacturing and distribution capacity as the system nears its centenary in the country. For Bepensa, the investment brings more production capacity and jobs as well as logistics infrastructure in Yucatan.
Beverage bottlers are also making investments in automation and regional distribution as well as sustainability. Projects like Planta Centenario Valladolid are transforming the infrastructure that supports the food and beverage supply chain of Mexico.
