Steris, a maker of medical equipment, said on August 5, 2026, that it is going to invest $600m in North Carolina chemicals manufacturing and distribution center. The chemicals will be utilized by healthcare and pharmaceutical customers.

Upon completion of the $600m in North Carolina chemicals manufacturing and distribution hub, the company plans to relocate its current chemical operations located in St. Louis, Missouri, as well as Plymouth, Minnesota, to the new site.

The new 600,000-square-foot facility will be located near the Raleigh-Durham Research Triangle region of North Carolina and manufacture chemicals used in both infection prevention as well as contamination control.

Steris anticipates that the site will be operational in approximately two to three years, with distribution activities scheduled to begin before manufacturing operations.

Steris will be able to accelerate innovation, increase capacity, and improve its U.S. manufacturing and distribution network with the investment, confirmed its CEO, Dan Carestio.

The new campus is projected to generate around 335 jobs in manufacturing, research and development as well as distribution, Steris said.

The accessibility to technical expertise and skills in the region were among the reasons the company chose North Carolina after looking at a number of sites.

Interestingly, the investment is backed by North Carolina’s economic development programs, Lee County, and the city of Sanford.

Steris in May projected a fiscal 2027 profit over Wall ⁠Street projections, betting on robust demand for its sterilization services regardless of slightly failing to meet estimates for the fourth quarter adjusted profit.
