Artificial Intelligence as Foundation for Manufacturing

POSCO DX said on July 29, 2026, that it will become an AI-native company, adopting artificial intelligence as foundation for manufacturing. The company announced its AI-based business strategies and technology development covering physical as well as administrative fields in a press conference held at the Lotte Hotel located in Jung-gu, Seoul.

It is well to be noted that POSCO DX will focus on broadening physical AI to establish intelligent factories in which humans, AI, and equipment as well as robots collaborate in the industrial field. Notably, physical AI is the AI system having eyes that work as sensors and bodies that work as robots that sense and evaluate the real world. It controls physical objects like autonomous vehicles and robots as well as drones.

One vivid illustration is the robotization when it comes to large equipment, for instance, the autonomous control as far as multi-ton cranes are concerned and reclaimers transporting raw materials in steelworks.

As part of embracing artificial intelligence as foundation for manufacturing, the company has developed industrial robots as well as automated guided vehicles – AGVs to undertake dangerous tasks, such as eliminating contaminants from molten metal within smelting furnaces, in order to improve safety and efficiency. It is also creating a VLA – Vision, Language, Action framework for mobile robots that incorporates humanoids.

Interestingly, POSCO DX is applying Agentic AI to streamline administrative and managerial settings. It has built an internal platform, Agenty, that oversees AI agents – virtual assistants through their life cycle, right from hiring to retirement, like human employee processes. AI agents now evaluate every aspect of pre-closing financial risk audits, spotting irregularities, for instance, omitted vouchers, and generating reports that cut the review time from three hours to less than a minute.

The company anticipates an efficiency gain of a minimum of 30% when entirely applied to accounting procedures. POSCO DX is now running more than 200 AI agents in the group and intends to provide them externally as well.

Notably, POSCO DX strives to be a full-stack enterprise leading the industrial AI market with fully integrated field control and management capabilities. Traditional AI applications only recorded data, but POSCO DX utilizes collected data as a foundation for consistent evolution, a process in which AI acquires knowledge, assesses, and enhances itself, said the head of management planning at POSCO DX, Choi Tae-hwan.

He added that they will lead the AI market for manufacturing using this full-stack standard.
