$100bn For Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing in Arizona

The White House, along with the Department of Commerce, made the announcement on July 16, 2026, that TSMC will invest an additional $100 billion to build advanced semiconductor manufacturing in Arizona along with packaging plants. With modern facilities, TSMC’s $265 billion investment will amount to 12 facilities in the US.

This corresponds to the announcement in March 2025 with President Trump and Secretary Lutnick that TSMC would raise its initial investment pledge of $65 billion by a further $100 billion. Total anticipated investment in the United States now is a record-high $265 billion.

The statement comes only months after the conclusion of the historic trade and investment deal between the U.S. and Taiwan under the guidance of the American Institute in Taiwan and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States and emphasizes the Trump administration’s dedication to bolstering domestic production and U.S. technological leadership by means of strategic alliances and investments.

This further $100 billion funding for advanced semiconductor manufacturing in Arizona is a significant expansion of TSMC’s plans to establish several fabrication plants and sophisticated packaging facilities in the US. When TSMC executes its investment plan, the company’s investments in the United States are anticipated to result in substantial construction and high-tech employment and spur billions in both direct and indirect economic output.

Howard Lutnick, the commerce secretary, said that “President Trump’s leadership is driving companies to invest in American manufacturing. TSMC’s announcement of an additional $100 billion investment following our historic deal on trade and investment with Taiwan will create tens of thousands of American jobs and bring advanced semiconductor manufacturing back to America.”

Says TSMC Chairman and CEO Dr. C.C. Wei, “We appreciate the strong collaboration and support of the Trump administration, Secretary Lutnick, and our leading U.S. customers and have announced an additional $100 billion investment in the U.S., bringing the total planned investment to $265 billion and adding to the largest foreign direct investment in U.S. history. This is to support the strong multi-year demand from our leading U.S. customers, and we believe this investment will further foster the development of the U.S. semiconductor ecosystem, strengthen the supply chain, and support significant job creation in the United States. We are very excited about the tremendous opportunities that lie ahead of us.”

The trade and investment deal is also expected to encourage more Taiwanese investment in the United States. The agreement will attract $250 billion of direct investment from Taiwanese semiconductor and various other companies and $250 billion of additional Taiwan investment to introduce other critical elements of the semiconductor supply chain to the U.S.
