Doosan Robotics confirmed on June 6, 2026, that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Sea Mecanics on June 5, 2026, when it comes to the joint development of manufacturing automation and AI deburring system solution.
Notably, the signing ceremony took place at the Doosan Robotics Innovation Center, Bundang-gu, Seongnam.
It is well to be noted that the agreement seeks to improve the degree of automation at manufacturing sites by integrating collaborative robot automation solution capabilities of Doosan Robotics with expertise in precision machining, parts manufacturing, and production site operation of Sea Mecanics. Notably, Sea Mecanics designs and manufactures electric vehicle battery elements and core components for sustainable mobility.
In particular, the two companies will work together diligently to boost competitiveness in technology and establish synergies for new businesses via the joint development as well as proof of concept of manufacturing process automation robot solutions, such as an AI deburring system, R&D of future-generation robot solutions, and the sharing of knowledge on new technologies as well as market trends.
To accomplish this, Doosan Robotics will offer hardware and software technologies and products associated with AI and collaborative robots and offer overall technical support, such as the design of robot automation solutions. Sea Mecanics will provide parts design, mass production technologies, and manufacturing site know-how and will provide the required tools and skilled workers for prototype manufacturing and testing.
The centerpiece of the agreement is manufacturing automation and AI deburring system solution. It is well to be noted that deburring is the procedure of eliminating burrs, small fragments, and pieces left on the surface of a product after the metal or plastic has been machined. The jointly developed solution by the two companies utilizes 3D vision and AI technology to allow robots to identify the positions and remove them automatically. When the solution is implemented, the consistency of quality is expected to be improved, and manufacturing cycles will be shortened, which will enhance the stability and efficiency of factory operations.
Through the project, both organizations will initially carry out corresponding technology development and proof of concept utilizing eight collaborative robots, with the total number of robots to be gradually raised to over 50 units depending on the outcomes. The companies have decided to expand the scope of automation to the deburring process and other processes, including the melting process, which melts metal raw materials at high heat, and the palletizing process, which organizes and loads finished products onto pallets.
